EPF Passbook Download: UAN Login, PF Balance & Passbook PDF (2026)

Your EPF passbook is the single source of truth for your PF savings — it shows every month's employer share, employee share, EPS contribution, and the annual interest credit. Downloading it is free on the official EPFO portal and takes about two minutes if your UAN is activated. Here's the exact process.

What you need before you start

  • Your UAN (Universal Account Number) — 12 digits, printed on your salary slip or issued by your employer
  • Mobile number registered with EPFO (for OTP)
  • UAN password — if you don't have one, activate it in step 1 below
  • Your KYC (Aadhaar) linked with UAN — most passbook features require this

Step 1 — Activate UAN (skip if already activated)

  • Go to https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in
  • Click Activate UAN under Important Links
  • Enter UAN, Aadhaar, name, DOB, mobile, captcha → Get Authorization PIN
  • Enter the OTP received on your mobile → activation complete
  • You'll receive your password on SMS; change it after first login

Step 2 — Download the passbook

  • Go to https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/login
  • Enter UAN and password, complete captcha, click Login
  • Select Member ID (if you've worked at multiple employers, each has one)
  • Click View Passbook — full history opens on screen
  • Click Download PDF for an offline copy

Passbook data typically updates 3-7 days after your employer files the monthly ECR return.

Alternative — UMANG app (mobile)

  • Install UMANG app (Android/iOS) from official store
  • Search EPFO → Employee Centric Services → View Passbook
  • Enter UAN → OTP to registered mobile
  • Passbook opens in the app; download or share as PDF

Check PF balance without login

  • Missed call: give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile — you'll receive an SMS with balance (UAN must be KYC-verified)
  • SMS: send EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 (replace ENG with HIN, TAM, TEL, MAL, KAN, GUJ, MAR, BEN, PUN for regional languages)
  • Works only if UAN is linked with Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account

Common issues and fixes

  • 'Passbook not available for this member': your employer hasn't filed the return yet, or the establishment is on the exempted trust list (contact HR)
  • Login blocked after 3 wrong attempts: wait 10 minutes and try Forgot Password
  • KYC pending: link Aadhaar via e-KYC in the member portal; PAN and bank via KYC tab
  • UAN not received from employer: use Know Your UAN on the member portal with your PF number and mobile
